Kinder Soccer

Blowing Rock Parks and Recreation is currently hosting a Kinder-Soccer program for kindergardeners, ages 3-6. This program had 21 participants show up on the first day of practice. There are four coaches signed up to help with the prodiction of this program, which I think is a very reasonable number. The coaches split up into several divisions to maximize the efficiency and flow of the children and drills. During the practices the Kinder-Soccer players learn skills such as dribbling, passing, and shooting hosted each by one or two coaches. These skills training activities are mainly made up of fun games such as redlight-greenlight, aliens vs. superheroes,1 2 3, get out of my yard, and sharks. All of these games are made to make a unique and fun time for each individual child as they learn motor skills, intrapersonal/interpersonal communication, and teamwork. During the practice session the parents usually stay and watch, which can be intimidating as a coach, but once things get into rhythem you almost forget they are there. Blowing Rock Parks and Recreation provides water and a end of practice snack that usually consists of snack-pack puddings, granola bars, or apple sauce. The parents are very appreciative of the fact that the Parks and Recreation Department goes above and beyond what is asked of them to ensure that everyone is pleased by the end of each session. As the weeks go on some of the kinder players will undoubtably drop out and the practices will become more involved by allowing scrimmages and more complex games.
